Sphilis
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum.
Sign and Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of syphilis are related to the stage of the infection.

The first stage involves the appearance of a painless sore on the genitals, rectum, or mouth.

After the sore heals, the second stage will usually manifest with a rash.

Finally, after a long period with no symptoms, the third stage can suddenly develop, causing extensive damage to the brain, nerves, eyes, or heart.
